About Jess

Bio

Born in the fall of 1985, outside of Houston, Texas, Jess grew up in an incredibly conservative household and was homeschooled. Because of the sheltered environment and limited education, she had little access to art and never even had introductory level art classes. However, at the urging of some of her peers to “just take an art class to fulfill an elective,” Jess took her first ever art course at Lee College which turned into three semesters of Painting and her own exhibition in the McNulty-Haddick Art Gallery. Despite her success, the deeply ingrained beliefs from childhood kept her from pursuing art as a career. Only after having a family and time to further grow did Jess realize she could no longer deny her artistic drive and went back to school to study art. Graduating in the Spring of 2024, exactly 20 years after graduating from high school, Jess excelled with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art and Design, Studio Art Concentration, and minors in Film and Media Studies, Art History, and Humanities from University of Houston—Clear Lake - and winning Best in Show in her Senior BFA Show.
